Who I Am
My name is Leighanne Dauro, (the last name rhymes with “tomorrow”), and I’ve been breeding, training, and showing dogs for over 30 years.
Originally in Keeshonden, I’ve exclusively engaged with the extraordinary Icelandic Sheepdog breed since 2014. I live in north Alabama, near the city of Huntsville, with my husband of 39 years and my Icelandic Sheepdogs.
I am very active in AKC Conformation Competition, and have attained numerous AKC Champion titles on many dogs over the years. In Keeshonden I received a Register of Merit award for excellence as a producer of Champions. I am a proud member of the Icelandic Association of America, and have served on several ISAA Committees. I am a past officer and board member of both the Keeshond Club of America and the Huntsville Kennel Club. I was the Breeder Referral Representative for the Southeastern United States for several years, working to engage and educate the community at large. I have served as AKC Show Committee Chairman on numerous occasions, and have judged various AKC-Sanctioned Puppy Matches.
Over the years I taught many Conformation Training and Handling Classes. As class instructor I always love helping owners introduce their dogs to the show ring for the first time, but also really enjoy teaching more experienced handlers new ways to connect positively with their dogs.
My kennel, VALI ICELANDICS, is keenly focused on breeding sound minds in sound bodies. Extensive health testing as well as puppy temperament evaluations support this mission. I am proud of my experience and accomplishments, but know every dog is a unique individual, and every new day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow.
